BioBoost Nests are an excellent, earth-friendly way to boost the effectiveness of the bacteria in your pond. The BioBoost nest units are made in the USA and are specifically designed to create large surface area colonization sites for beneficial pond bacteria. These nests make any bacterial application that you do more effective and they allow your pond to hold greater concentrations of beneficial bacteria. The units are typically placed near your bottom aerators. The higher levels of bacteria in your pond will result less pond nutrients which means cleaner, clearer water and less algae and weeds. A Nest is a structure of patented PVC media, the same that is used in industrial wastewater treatment, but scaled for recreational ponds. Nests are scientifically proven to recruit and optimize biofilm containing denitrifying bacteria.

Simple Pond 5x Natural Bacteria Packets

These are super concentrated 1/2 pound doses of pond bacteria in an easy to apply and convenient water soluble packet. Just toss the packets in the water and the bag will dissolve in the water. Don’t open the packet and don’t get the packets wet before you go to use them. A special blend of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and barley created to keep your pond clean and clear. We don’t like calculating gallons and measuring things any more than you do, so we keep it simple. This is 100% natural bacteria, you will never add too much. If your pond is the size of your car add 1 packet per week over the summer, anywhere in the pond. Don’t open the packet, just toss it in the water. You may want to double that amount first thing in spring to boost the natural ecosystem. If your pond is half that size, use half as much. If your pond is twice that size use twice as much. Pretty darn simple! If you have a big pond, you should apply a minimum of 8 packets per acre, spread around the pond, per week that it isn’t frozen. If your pond is old and mucky, you can easily double that amount. If you have relatively clean water and a healthy pond full of aquatic plants, you may need much less bacteria.

All Natural, Full Sized Organic Wisconsin Barley Straw Bale

All Natural Full Sized Organic Barley Straw Bale Measuring approximately 32″ x 19″ x 14″ and weighing approximately 26 lbs.

This is a full sized farmer’s organic barley straw bale tied with twine. This entire bale could be staked to the shore just under the water line of a large natural bottomed pond. Or it can be broken down into smaller portions and put into our mesh barley bags for easier application and more effective decay. We will often insert rocks into the mesh bags to help them sink just below the surface of the water. One bale will fill approximately 6 mesh bags. If you’d rather have biodegradable bags, try our large burlap bags. Not as large as our mesh bags, but completely biodegradable. If left float on the surface of the pond, this bale will eventually sink over time and decay.
The barley straw does not begin to affect algae growth until it begins to decay, so apply your barley early in the year for best results. More water circulation and aeration will help with the effectiveness of barley straw.

We use these large mesh bags for placing barley in our larger ponds. They are not biodegradable, so they can be re-used. We will often drop some rocks in the bottom so that they sink, stuff them with barley and place them near the edges of the pond. Usually sink them so that they are right below the surface. Six of these bags will hold an entire full sized bale.
One of the included pictures shows that bag stuffed with barley straw. This purchase does not include any barley straw, just the bag.

Simple Pond Sinking Bacteria Muck Reducing Tablets

These natural sinking bacteria tablets contain a blend of beneficial pond bacteria that can perform in water temperatures as high as 110 F, and as low as 35 F and are great for reducing the muck on the bottom of your pond whether you have a large pond of multiple acres, or a small backyard pond of a few square feet. These tablets sink to the bottom and dissolve in your pond water, so there is no mess and no cleanup. The natural bacteria in these tablets will work hard to break down the debris and muck that gets into your pond. Less muck in the pond will mean less nutrients in the pond. Less nutrients in the pond will mean less algae. This pond bacteria formulation will also naturally eliminate murky water, excess fish food, fish wastes, odors, problem nutrients (such as nitrate and phosphate) and toxins (such as ammonia and nitrite).
Many people use these tablets to help rejuvenate old ponds with thick muck layers. The more bacteria you put in your pond, the more quickly the muck will be broken down, you can never harm fish, animals or plants with these tablets. The bacteria colonize in the pond feeding on the nutrients and muck. Most people add somewhere in the ballpark of 20 pounds of tablets per acre of pond surface per month as a minimum. You could easily double that for a mucky pond, and adding it more often will only help. For a small backyard pond, maybe a 1/4 or 1/2 pound every couple of weeks will do the trick.

Simple Pond Bacteria is an all natural blend of bacteria and enzymes created to specifically meet the needs of your natural pond. One of the keys to clean and clear water is the addition of bacteria and enzymes. This blend will work night and day to help break down any debris and muck that is in your pond. This is the exact product that I add to my pond and my client’s ponds every year. I give ponds a big dose in the spring and then add it as needed over the season. The amount of bacteria that your pond will need will depend on the current condition of the pond. Ponds with much debris and runoff entering the water will need more bacteria than a cleaner pond.

This is one fully stuffed, hand-packed, organic barley bale. We buy our barley from a certified organic barley grower right here in Janesville Wisconsin. We then hand pack the barley into bags. This bag is a plastic mesh onion sack, because we couldn’t find a fully biodegradable alternative. Sorry about that. The good news is that these bags are pretty easy to anchor to the edge or bottom of your pond and you can pull out the onion sack once the barley has finished decomposing. We have been using these bales in our largest ponds for many years in our pond business and we know that you will be fully satisfied with them.

These Barley Bales are pretty big, so we usually only use them in larger farm ponds. Like any barley bale, you will want it to be in some moving water if possible, and submerged just below the surface. You don’t want it to sink over three feet deep, or it just won’t get enough oxygen to decompose properly. They can be buried directly in the rocks and gravel at the bottom of your pond if you have a shallow area, or the bags can be stuffed with some rocks so that they sink to the bottom on their own. You can also stake these bags to the bottom in naturally bottomed ponds. The more water that flows through the bales, the better.

Barley is all natural, so you can never add too much barley.

We have been using these burlap bags for many years in our pond business and we know that you will be fully satisfied with our barley bales, just like all of our clients.

These Barley Bales are larger and should be used on slightly larger ponds. These bales will not fit into a waterfall box unless you ‘ve got a really big box like the Aquascape Grande. You can use these in a wetland filter, but we would usually install multiple 16oz bales instead, simply because they are easier to bury and they can be spread out more. Like any barley bale, these can be placed under your waterfall, or near the side of your pond. You want them to be submerged, so that you don’t see them, but the more water and oxygen that flows through them, the better. You don’t want them to sink any deeper than three feet down in a large pond. Without sufficient oxygen, they will not decompose properly. They can also be buried directly in the rocks and gravel at the bottom of your pond, or the bags can be stuffed with some rocks so that they sink to the bottom on their own. The more water that flows through the bales, the better.
